Imigongo is not a style someone invented recently. It comes from a specific place, made in a specific way, and this is the drive out to it.

What the day looks like

Three hours east, four hours there, three hours back. Long, and worth it.

At the cooperative

• How the boards are prepared, and what they are prepared with

• The ash, the clay and the colours that come from each

• A panel of your own, if you want to sit and make one

Be warned

It is a full day and a lot of road. Bring something to read for the drive, and expect to be back in Kigali after dark.
